The indigenous story says if it’s a cold night you need one dog beside you to keep you warm, if it’s colder you need two dogs and on a freezing night you need three - it’s a three dog night.
Well, I’m afraid my mummy and daddy only have one dog, and that’s me.
On these cold winter nights I love to cuddle down between the sheets and radiate warmth.
Sure, I have a cosy fur-lined doggie bed of my own. Indeed, I have cosy cushions all over the house, but there’s nothing as nice as putting your head on the pillow and lying on your back with your feet up in the valley forged between the humans.
I can understand that some people are so in love with their pets that they figure it’s the only bed buddy they need. A study by PETstock of 10,000 people shows that it’s easy for a pet to absorb all the love. In the study, 41 per cent of singles said they share their bed with a pet.
Well, I think that a pet perfectly fills the void in the absence of a partner. In fact, a pet is much better than a partner. Think of it this way, we are your best friend, we don’t talk back or tell tales, and we roll with the punches during the night. We never complain if you snore, drag off the blankets or kick us in your sleep; we just move to another grove in the quilt.
Come morning we jump up without complaint at the prospect of a walk, no matter how early, and we don’t take over the bathroom. All our needs are met with a bowl of food, a walk and a few hugs.
What more could you ask from a buddy?
